11th Cup of Montreal

Montreal, May 30th, 2015 – The 11th annual Coupe d’apnée de Montréal (Montreal Cup) took place at the Parc Jean Drapeau swimming complex. The event, organized by CASM (Club d’apnée sportive de Montréal), benefited from almost perfect warm and sunny weather.

This year’s competition was a busy one, with some 24 competitors coming from as far as Toronto, Quebec City, Gaspésie and, of course, Montreal itself. In addition, the competition was supported by over a dozen volunteers and a very competent safety team. Benoit Daoust was again available to take great pictures of the day’s competition.

CASM’s event was supported by two new sponsors this year: Enjoy Freediving and Les Projets de Nicolas. Enjoy Freediving offered a pair of R2 Trygons fins to the top male and female competitors in the dynamic with fins event while the best static performers were offered Trygons’ famous noseclips. The medals for top competitors in each of the discipline were awarded courtesy of Les Projets de Nicolas. A big thank to both organizations for their support!

Impressive performance by Alexandre Chapdelaine who placed 2nd in the Dynamic apnea event

The dynamic with fins event saw stiff competition this year as Gregory Costa, a 2014 record breaker, sought to regain his title after a solid performance by Alexandre Chapdelaine who posted a white-card performance of 173 meters. In the end, Costa was not to be beaten and finished with a result of 190 meters, putting him within range of the national record currently held by William Winram (205 meters).

In the women’s category, a newcomer, Rosalie Julien took first place. Once again, Marie-Christine Lamontagne managed to place with a silver medal performance followed closely by Toronto’s Larissa Lolyada.
