On Friday May 31, 2013, Great White Shark 3D will premiere in Montreal, Quebec, at the Centre des Sciences’ IMAX theater.

Together with Fred Buyle, AIDA Canada co-founders William Winram and François Leduc were fortunate enough to participate to the shooting of a part of this film during an offshore expedition in Guadalupe, Mexico in November 2012.

2013 Nationals indoor athletes and volunteers

Toronto, April 20-21, 2013

The 2013 Indoor Canadian Nationals kicked off this past week-end. Held over two days, with all three pool disciplines (static apnea, dynamic apnea, dynamic apnea without fins), this indoor National Championship took place at the Riverdale Collegiate Institute, in Toronto, Ontario.

This competition is the annual championship for all Canadian freedivers, for all indoor disciplines. It was adjudicated by AIDA International judges Søren Frederiksen and Doug Sitter and sanctionned by AIDA Canada. Results from this competition will count toward both International and Canadian rankings.

Congratulations to all seventeen athletes from Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia who attended the event.

Special congratulations to 2013 Canadian Champions Natalie Doduc and Marc-André Tratch who cumulated the most points across all three disciplines.

AIDA Canada is proud to introduce its latest club members: CASQ (Club d’Apnée Sportive de Québec).
CASQ was founded in 2012 with the mission to promote freediving in the region of Quebec city through education, training and recreational diving.

Its founding members are Maxim Iskander and Louis Gagné.

From a very young age, Maxim is fascinated by the underwater world in the red sea. His passion for nature leads to scuba diving and breath-hold diving. Today, he is a Padi scuba instructor as well as an AIDA instructor. Maxim regularly trains freediving in Dahab, Egypt, Utila, Honduras and of course, Flintkote quarry in Thetford Mines. His passion for freediving, his patience and empathy put him in an excellent position for teaching. One of his great pleasures is to introduce people to breath-hold diving and most of all to see them evolve into a passion for what he considers one of the most beautiful and noble water sport.

Louis grew up in Quebec and has always been passionate about water sports (snowboard, sailing, swimming, freediving). His travels to Mexico further developed his passion for freediving. He now has started practicing breath-hold diving and breathing yoga.

Montreal, May 25-26, 2013

It is another 2 months before the Cup of Montreal kick off ! Held over two days, May 25 and 26, with all three pool disciplines (static apnea, dynamic apnea, dynamic apnea without fins).

This “indoor” Regional Championship will be held outdoors at the Jean Drapeau Aquatic Center nestled on Saint-Helen Island, Montreal, where the International Swimming Federation World Championship was held in 2005. This competition is the 9th edition of the Cup of Montreal. It will be adjudicated by AIDA International judges and sanctionned by AIDA Canada. Results from this competition will count toward both International and Canadian rankings.

This exciting competition is organized by the largest freediving club in Quebec CASM.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the National Depth event which will be held in the province of Quebec in the Summer.
